In some of the Flowering plants, the epidermal cell surrounds the guard cells and become specialised in their shape and size and thus called as subsidiary cells. They are also known as accessory cells. They provide support to the guard cells. They not carry chloroplasts and do not carry out the photosynthesis. Bulliform cells are large, bubble-shaped epidermal cells that occur in groups on the upper surface of the leaves of many monocots. These cells are present on the adaxial or the upper surface of the leaf. They are generally present near the midvein. These cells are large, empty and colourless. Lenticels are the pores of outer plant tissue that provide a direct exchange of gases between internal plant tissues and the atmosphere. Complementary cells are a mass of cells in plants, formed from the cork cambium at the position of the lenticels. It is a group of loosely arranged cells that aid in gaseous exchange through the cork. PAGE 89, XI NCERT
